Pier Place

Pier Place is a public square in the commercial heart of the Foreshore in Cape Town. Within the square are a number of bronze sculptures of people, made by Egon Tania, which depict life in the City. Each sculpture is intricately detailed, slotting into the square within the paving and furniture, as the Bronze people use the public space. In addition the implementation of sinuous benches, cobbled pixelated paving, and planting which all integrate with the feature sculptures making for a thought provoking space. The cobbled paving, benches, sculptures and lighting all merge together seemlessly in the design of this urban space.

Pier place was awarded the 2009 ILASA Merit award for design Excellence, along with Jetty Square, for the pedestrianization of the Foreshore.
